[Video] The familiar group of several young males have returned to the vicinity of neighbouring residential buildings

Heard this on the radio today and it still cuts through and sounds so fresh. The coolest bassman (and frontman) ever, Phil Lynott, the black Irish cowboy, a very unusual sight when they first emerged. But they also pioneered the whole twin leads thing (well actually Wishbone Ash got there first, but they were a bit rubbish). In this video (1978) these are Scott Gorham (hair) and Brian Robertson (less hair), but Lizzy guitarists chopped and changed a lot. I’ve never been a fan of metal, but I make an exception for Zep and these guys. Sadly never got to see them, they were one of the best live bands. Lynott has a statue in Dublin; he was that much of a legend in his hometown.

  1. I’m not convinced this is metal. And if this is one of the only exceptions you’ll make to it, I apologise in advance for when I write a review of Zico Chain’s The Devil in Your Heart.

  2. No not really metal. Except for: widdly guitarring. But Zep weren’t either really. Most metal was a poor attempt to emulate Zep. Thin Lizzy were described as ‘very clean’ when they first appeared on TOTP, by a person close to me. Hardly.
